Happy Holidays!

img_26411As usual, the holidays have crept up on me – and I’ve been behind on everything, including the blog of course….but now I’m catching up. I think I am more in the Christmas spirit this year than I have been in years, mostly because of our darling daughter. We have a tree up (artificial…much to Jeremy’s dismay…but he is being sweet about my allergies…), and I’ve been playing the Christmas music channel in the house 24/7. For once, I’ve actually finished all of my Christmas shopping before we leave for Texas…and now I am just relishing the holiday festivities. We’ve gone to the img_26601botanical gardens twice (the first time we forgot a camera) for their Garden of Lights. They have Santa, beautiful lights, mulled wine, music, horse pulled wagons, marshmellow roasting…and even snow one of the nights we went. It is a perfect way to spend the evening and really get in the mood. Even though we have a Santa doll for Bella at home, and Kristine has taught her that Santa says, “Ho, Ho, Ho!” (it’s really funny) – she still just wouldn’t warm up to the big guy…but that is ok, she loved the horses and the snow – so I think that made up for us torturing her with the photo. I really want to make this our new Christmas tradition!

We’ve been letting Bella open presents that my mom has sent out early this year (as she doesn’t really understand Christmas yet). I think she likes the act of tearing open the wrapping paper just as much as the toys inside! It is going to be a really fun week… I really don’t have anything that I want for Christmas this year except good health for everyone in our families. We leave for Texas next week…and we are so fortunate to get to see our families during the holidays this year. Both my dad and Jer’s mom are dealing with cancer issues at the moment – so it is even more special to get to see them…Bella will definitely be able to bring some “Ho Ho Ho-liday Cheer” to the festivities…I feel like we have so much to be thankful for.

As usual, no Christmas Cards from the Neill Family…(one of these days I will get on top of that)…so right here, right now, I want to wish you Very Happy Holidays and Hope, Peace and Happiness for Your New Year!

I just downloaded some of the photos from our camera (some are from a few months back)…so I am going to post a few pics here too….

These are from our Central Coast Trip…the hike, then feeding the animals at Avila Valley Farms

So Late With My Stats…

Posted on

So…I had meant to update this info right after B’s 15 mo appt…but alot has happened since then. Some good (ie–an awesome family getaway to Santa Barbara and the central coast) and unfortunately quite a bit bad (whole family sick and Bella has her first two ear infections back to back…) – but we are all well now and gearing up for the holidays, so it is time for me to get back on track.

Stats for Bella as of 15 1/2 months…

Height: 33.5 in (above 97%)
Weight: 22 lb (25-50%)
Head: 47 in (90%)

And…Bella is OFFICIALLY weaned! (YEA for Mommy!! 🙂 ) As much as I’ll miss our snuggle time…it was time for her to move on – and although she still points and asks for it in the morning, we are going one week strong – I guess she is truly no longer a baby, and moving into toddlerdome.

As far as development, she is running and walking much steadier now (although she is still pretty clumsy…I have a feeling that might last through adulthood if she is anything like me…) She is also saying quite a few words: home, hi, bye-bye, mama, dada, apple, milk, open, up, down, ball… are some of the ones that I can think of off the top of my head. She is also really into buckles right now. She is still really into books as well. I’ve created her own little book case and she will pull every book out, and go through each page of each book. Creates quite the mess – but very cute and entertaining for her. She also loves to dance and humm twinkle, twinkle little star (she can do the whole song, and says “up above” for that one line – I find she sings it all day long. (We sing it to her before bed every night…guess it sticks in her head.)

Below are some pics that our friend Renee took of us at the beach. Will try to post some from our trip soon…Enjoy.

Little things I don’t want to forget…

Posted on

Well, I was just going through some old posts, and reminiscing…Bella turns 15 months next week. Tonight, we had such a nice family dinner (Bella’s first taste of crockpot ribs, and she quite enjoyed – kept doing the more sign over and over…she liked the sweet potato too, of course…) and I was looking over at B and I said, “I wonder what you are going to look like when you get a little bigger and have some more hair…” Jeremy looked at me, and said I was just thinking that same thing yesterday…I realized as I looked at her, she still just looks like my little baby girl, although she has definitely grown so much over the past year…to others she probably looks like a toddler…but not to me…I wonder if it will always feel that way?

Anyhow, I realized I haven’t been record keeping very well lately, and I don’t want to forget this stuff (because the last year already seems like a blur) so I am going to write it down now.

Bella is now RUNNING…albiet, like a drunkard with no sense whatsoever…She is hilarious, and loves to play chase (I’m gonna get you) with us. I’m hoping the clumsiness is due to the relatively short period she’s been moving on two feet, and not a hereditary trait she gained from my graceful genes. She is gaining about two new words per week, and learning to pronounce some of the words that she already knew a little better so that I can tell it REALLY is the word that I though it was. Even funnier, she is babbling like crazy when she plays or wants something. I swear earlier today she was cursing me out in her own funny baby language…she often does this when she wants me to do something until I figure it out (today, she wanted me off the phone and to put her on her rocking horse…go figure..) I have a hard time not laughing when she does this…but I really do try not to, I don’t want to be rude- she can’t help it that she can’t talk yet!

As she has grown, her routine has finally settled into what I am hoping will last for a couple more years.

Wakes about 6 am (nurses until 7…yes, I know…its ridiculous…but it gives me an extra hour of rest after I drag myself out of bed and get her – last feeding we need to ween)
Breakfast – 8am
Lunch – around 11:30-noon
Nap – 12:30 – 2:30 or 3
Dinner 6:30
Bedtime 8pm

Anyhow…enough record keeping for the night…I’m beat. I’ll have a true record keeping update next week after her 15 mo doc appt.

Annual Pumkin Carving 09

Posted on

Last night we had all the neighbors over for our annual pumpkin carving. I made a bunch of cupcakes and as we got all the kids on a big sugar high, and they began the task of cleaning out the pumpkins and carving scary faces (the parents did their fair share as well 🙂 )We roasted up the pumpkins seeds, and posed for a few photos in the yard- I’d say it was our best pumpkin carve yet! Even better, afterwards, the mommies of Calle De Madera decided to head out for sushi….what a nice break that was!! Yum…

Visiting Dee Dee and Pa Pa

Posted on

Dee Dee and Pa Pa were supposed to come out to CA this month, but since my dad got some bad news about his cancer progression (please keep him in your prayers), we decided to go visit him last week. It was a really nice visit! Bella was so good the entire trip – and she even said “Pa Pa” a few times. Since I know dad is going to go through a very tough next few months, it really meant alot to us to get out there and have a nice visit while he was feeling good still. Bella is finally at the age where she will goof around with them – and she really took to Pa Pa, I got some cute pics of them goofing off together during dinner one night…

Good Times…

We’ve had a nice past couple of weeks… Grammy came for a visit over Labor Day weekend. We went to the beach, the zoo, and out to the Texas Exes Game Watching Party. It was a nice weekend (minus the quick trip to the ER when Bella fell and hit her head – no worries, she is just fine…I was just taking precautions since it was her first head bump…)

In other news, Bella now has 10 teeth…(she got a lower molar this week) and it looks like the top two “fangs” are on their way next…her favorite animal sound at the moment is BAAAAAAAA…like a sheep…hilarious.

Summer Fun

Posted on

My-Smiler

As usual, the California Summer is a whirlwind of fun. It has been HOT here lately (ok – I know you Texans think I’m wimpy for sayin’ that, but imagine ninety degree heat without any air conditioning…:) Since it seems to actually be cooler outside of our house than inside, we’ve been spending tons of time at the park, the beach, and the backyard.

img_2396Bella loves water! It is great, because I can fill the baby pool and water table in our backyard and she will be amused for at least an hour (sometimes two!) – add our neighbor Owie into the mix, and it feels like a party (plus it is nice for MaMa to get to hang with Kirsten, too!)

Bella’s development still amazes me daily. Sine she started walking (about a month ago), she barely ever stops moving when she is awake. She understands SO much – I find myself asking her for different items throughout the day just to see if she will give them to me (and often she does!) She is still REALLY into animals – and loves to make their sounds. She has a special sound she makes for fish, ducks, birds, horses, cows and sheep. It is hilarious. She also LOVES to give kisses and snuggles to all her stuffed animals/dolls, and feed all of them with a play bottle she has. She also loves to blow kisses img_2355to anyone and everything. Sometimes, I will just be carrying her down the stairs, and she will lean in and give me the sweetest kiss. It absolutely melts my heart every time. She also loves cars (or really anything with wheels). She tries to make a vroom, vroom sound, and will roll them on the floor. And of course, ELMO?!?! I swear, what do they do to make kids go crazy for that little red creature – it is ridiculous. We still don’t watch much TV…maybe Sesame Street or Mickey Mouse here and there – but her attention span is too short to really get into it (and I’m not that keen on it anyway)…BUT she goes absolutely bonkers for this one Baby Einstein movie (numbers) that we have. If I even say, do you want to watch a movie (that’s what I call the Baby Einstein dvd) she gets this huge smile…and then she will literally be GLUED to it, until I turn it off…we don’t do it much, but I will admit, it comes in handy when I have something important I need to take care of. It’s so simple…I don’t really get it, but she absolutely img_2318LOVES it.

She’s also been exposed to has enjoyed interacting with some of our friends more recently. She, Kaelyn and Cliff recently enjoyed a nice long day at San O. And we even headed up to Simi Valley and hung out with the Spencer twins for a weekend. And of course, there’s always our sweet neighbor, Owen.

Well, I know it has been a while since I posted, and I’ve made a promise to myself to stay up with this, so I will try to post more soon. This weekend Grammy is coming for a visit. I know we’ll have a great time – so I’ll try to post the pictures from our visit next week.

She loves to splash!

One Year Old

img_38582

Wow – turns out, one year goes by REALLY fast! Our baby girl is a whole year old! To celebrate, we decided to take Bella on her first trip to the zoo. She really enjoyed it, and in fact, we decided to get a membership, so that we can go back anytime we want over the next year and really explore. There were two big highlights of the day. 1> the polar bear: It was playing with a big ball in the water – dribbling it, actually…and we got right up close to the glass. His paw was SO big – Bella was in awe (as well as everyone else watching…you really couldn’t help but be fascinated) 2> A baby gorilla: I love the chimpanzees, and in my quest to find them, we came up the the gorilla viewing area (which is equally entertaining) There happened to be a baby gorilla goofing around in the camp, and it came right up to the window to take a peek at all the people looking in. It was strolling along, not really paying all that much attention to anyone, but when it got to Bella, it stopped right in its tracks as if to say hello! It was really cool. There happened to be a zoo volunteer nearby, and she told me that the gorilla always stops to look at the babies. What a treat for us!! We only spent a few hours at the zoo, but we saw lots of primates, zebras, polar bears, elephants, condors and even meerkats. We came home and ate cake with the neighbors and Bella opened her presents. Overall – it was a great day!

Bella went to the Dr. this week for her one year well checkup. Here are her stats:
Height: 32.25 in (off the charts)
Weight: 19 lb 12 oz (25%)

Dr says she is doing great and right on track. I started the weaning process last week, and she likes whole milk well enough, so hopefully it won’t be to painful for her. Here is an example of our current routine:

7am- wake & nurse
8am-breakfast
11am-big morning snack
Noon-2:30pm-nap
 2:30-big afternoon snack
6pm-dinner
6:45-bath/bedtime routine
7:30-asleep

We are in the transition phase for naps right now, so sometimes we have a short one at 11 am and another around 4 – but I am really working on one long nap per day so that we can stick to a 7:30 bedtime. Bella is having some separation anxiety at night right now, and seems to want to be held a bit more to be calmed to go to bed, but that is ok – I figure it is just part of the weaning process. It is quite an exciting time, as we are trying new foods (tried eggs this morning – she seemed to like them), she is becoming more independent (for the good and the bad – sometime it would be so much easier if mommy could just do it – especially around mealtimes…but I guess that they have to learn somehow), and she is understanding and responding so much more. It seems she learn a new word every week (this week was car…), and her favorite thing to do right now is blow kisses (at everyone and everything). I gave her a baby doll for her birthday that she can feed with a bottle and it makes a sucking sound – and she LOVES to do that (as well as feed every other stuffed animal in the room, even though they don’t respond!)

I created a (psuedo) baby book for her for her birthday (it doesn’t have all the stats- those are here, but there are lots of fun pictures) – please feel free to take a look – click here!

More adventures coming soon….

Bella’s First Words

Posted on

I’ve been meaning to write these down as they happen, but of course, time flies when you are having fun…

Bella’s started saying a few words…I think her first ones were DaDa and Home. She also says Hi, Up, Down, MaMa and this morning I got a Bye-Bye 🙂 She loves making animal sounds, especially quacking like a duck (although it is more like CLACK, CLACK when she says it…), for a fish she smacks her lips together and for a cow, she blows (or more like spits through her lips with a BBBB sound (not really sure why? we always say moo – but this is the sound she has decided a cow makes…) She also recently tried to oink and cheep to a book we have with Daddy, but these sounds are few and far between at the moment.

She is definitely getting into “toddlerhood” – and gets very frustrated and angry when she doesn’t get her way. She will point and scream when she wants something, and continue doing so until you either give it to her or distract her with something else. She is also learning to test our boundaries. She knows that certain areas of the house are off-limits, but will go up to the stairs and climb the first step, look at you and shake her head “no”…but we still have to go get her and bring her down. I guess after the millionth time it might sink in. 🙂

She is still trying very hard to walk. She will stand up, so proud, and take about 7 steps and then crash to her knees. She loves walking all over holding onto an adult finger, but is still pretty iffy about going more than a few steps on her own.

Her first Birthday is coming up this week (I can’t believe it!!! This year has gone by SO fast!) I think we are going to either go to the beach or make a trip to the zoo for a small family celebration.
